Thavoron Celebrates Queer Freedom on “Body” (Music Video) - 29 March 2024
Thavoron releases “Body” Music Video available on March 29th on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve Records.
Seattle, Washington-based Thavoron (Tav-er-on) shares his new single & music video “Body” set for digital release on March 29th via Trailing Twelve Records. Following the release of his sophomore album and short film Tommy Loves You, Thavoron returns with “Body” - an ode to sensuality and magnetic attraction.
Growing up as a Cambodian-American and writing songs about queer relationships, Thavoron’s exploration into love and sensuality evolves with each project. While his previous songs have explored the trauma and challenges of physical relationships, “Body” signals a shift in perspective. Thavoron shares his inspiration for the song below.
The inspiration for 'Body' was a sort of reclamation of my sexuality...I was starting to shift my mindset and realized the power you can hold or remove in sex and intimacy.
On “Body”, Thavoron swaps out his signature neo-folk sound for throbbing electronic production. Warm synths build tension and lead to anthemic choral release. The steady heartbeat of percussion grounds the explosive synths while Thavoron’s falsetto vocal yearns [Hot to be what makes your body sing / I’d do anything, to see you come].
I wanted to just capture queer liveliness...and I wanted to take my own spin on what that meant to me, and what it feels like to me.
The accompanying music video, directed by Maddie Ludgate, is a celebration of queer liveliness and the electrifying energy of new connections. Fireworks map across bare skin to symbolize the exhilarating moment of ignition in a budding relationship.
For the video, I was inspired by the idea of that ‘first-night-spark’ or explosions in general. I thought it would be really beautiful to ‘become’ that spark. - Thavoron

BIO
Thavoron is a Cambodian American artist based in Seattle, Washington. Layering angelic vocals and intimate lyricism over heart-breaking sonic progressions, Thavoron pulls inspiration from contemporaries such as Frank Ocean, Faye Webster, and Bon Iver.
Growing up as a Cambodian-American and not feeling represented in the music industry, Thavoron hopes to help pave the way for Southeast/Asian American and queer artists alike looking for a sense of creative community:
“..being surrounded by people I couldn’t fully relate to resorted to me locking myself up in my bedroom to just write to try and make sense of all my differences as a person.”
With coverage including Under The Radar, Celebmix, METAL, Ones To Watch, Seattle Times, Unclear, and Before The Data, Thavoron’s music has been described as deeply reflective, vulnerable, and increasingly rare. Tackling themes like cultural identity, grief, and strained relationships, Thavoron crafts hauntingly melancholy songs that leave a lasting impression.
