Party of the Sun teases their upcoming EP ‘Goldenwood’ with the release of the confident and heartfelt road -anthem “79.”
Back in October 2019, Party of the Sun released their continuous psychedelic-folk exploration Trekker. The 8-track album hinted early singles like the glistening slice of Americana “Slide Away” and the meditative groove “Sea Surrounds.” Today, Party of the Sun is back with “79”, a confident road-song that offers a glimpse into their forthcoming Goldenwood EP out on June 26.
According to the band, the initial version of the song had a different structure and different lyrical content. “When revisiting it this past winter, we realized Rory’s guitar part was the core of the tune and I needed to find a way to elevate it.” explains lead singer Ethan McBrien. “ I went home that night with it stuck in my head. When I woke the next day it was still ringing in there, so I grabbed the guitar and wrote the words.” In addition to co-writer and producer Rory Hurley’s multi-instrumental composition, the song features a nostalgic organ bed performed by Colin Bradley.
Described as a song that “explores that to which we are drawn,” the track evokes open highways, sun flickering through tall evergreen trees, and a wistful affection for the past. At a steady gallop, Hurley’s infectious guitar motif sets the tone for McBrien’s vocals to land with delicate yearning.
“79” is taken from the upcoming Goldenwood EP, out June 26, 2020 on Trailing Twelve.

BIO
Party of the Sun is a folk and psychedelic band from New Hampshire, led by songwriter Ethan McBrien and producer/multi-instrumentalist Rory Hurley.
Since 2006, both McBrien and Hurley have recorded and performed together in various projects. Throughout his career, McBrien has always had an interest in folk music; writing many songs influenced by the Americana tradition. In the fall of 2015, McBrien and Hurley began recording this material. These collaborative sessions at McBrien’s home - a small sheep farm in Marlborough, NH - were the impetus of what has become Party of the Sun.
Lay Low, their debut EP was released in the autumn of 2017 via LA-based independent label Trailing Twelve Records. Two years later, after a series of singles, the band released their debut LP, “Trekker.”
Party of the Sun has been featured in television shows such as Deputy on Fox and Charmed on The CW. They have shared the stage with acts including William Tyler, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Footings, The Weight Band, and more.
