Derek Simpson shares their new single and music video “Kid The Moon,” available February 17th on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve Records.

Long Beach bedroom-pop extraordinaire Derek Simpson presents his latest single “Kid The Moon” via Trailing Twelve Records. The song joins a steady slate of long-form compositions by Simpson (“Hide & Seek” “Sofia”) that take a relaxed and romantic approach to contemporary pop.

“Kid The Moon” acts as a gentle celebration of late-night pleasures and moonlit partnerships. Sonically the track lives in the spaces between dreams and waking consciousness. In the accompanying music video, we see Simpson’s playfulness come to life in the form of various costume changes, effortless gyrations, and…human anatomical model footage. The combination acts as a hypnotic endeavor, allowing the viewer to get lost in the allure of the song and Simpson’s sway.

To further contextualize, Simpson shared the following:

I wrote Kid The Moon after having met someone a little less than a year ago. Sharing time with this person was such an unexpected treat that this song just kind of lept its way out of me. We still keep in regular contact even with time-zone differences and countries between us, and I hope this song can stay with them throughout their lifetime as a reminder of just how lovely it is to get to know them.

“Kid The Moon” is out February 17, 2021 on Trailing Twelve.

BIO

Derek Simpson is an American recording artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. After gaining success with multiple free album releases on Soundcloud (under the pseudonym Planetarian) from 2013 to 2016, Derek moved from Boston to Long Beach to continue recording his own music and surround himself with other up-and-coming artists in need of songwriting help and production. Layering spacey guitar chords and electric piano lines with dense and introspective wordplay, Derek's music often explores the value of holding a positive perspective in the face of confusion or adversity. His respect for focus and hard work shows in his recordings, all of which are fully written, produced, composed, and mixed by himself.

Derek has produced music for Kevin Abstract, Dom McLennon, Rockie Fresh and more. His music has also been featured in Comedy Central's Workaholics.
